It is confirmed today that Asura Shojo ~BLOOD-C Ibun~" (Asura Girl -Blood-C Side Story), an all-new live-action film inspired by the Blood-C anime series created by Production I.G and Nanase Ohkawa (CLAMP), is now in the works for a release in Japan, including Theater Shinjuku in Tokyo, in the early fall of 2017.
The film is directed by 41-year-old Shutaro Oku, who previously worked on the Blood-C The Last Mind stage play in July 2015, that featured an untold story in the time period between the 12-episode TV series Blood-C in 2011 and its feature film sequel Blood-C: The Last Dark in 2012. Junichi Fujisaki, the director of the 2005-2006 TV series Blood+, provides a newly-written screenplay. According to the flyer, the story is described as: "In prewar Japan under the military regime, a bloody battle between the extremely oppressive Special Higher Police and villagers begins!"
24-year-old Kaede Aono, who played Ran in Blood-C The Last Mind and Major Motoko Kusanagi in the Ghost in the Shell ARISE: GHOST is ALIVE stage play in November 2015, is set to play the yet-revealed protagonist, alongside Ryunosuke Matsumura (Nine in the Terror in Resonance stage play), Kanon Miyahara (Saya Kisaragi in Blood-C The Last Mind), Arata Furuta, Toru Tezuka, Yoji Tanaka, Ren Yagami, Naoya Gomoto, Eiji Takigawa, Yuki Tomotsune, and Keisuke Mimami. Aono said in her official blog that it was filmed between June and December of 2016.
