The film tells of the camel trainers in eastern Xinjiang in the early years of the Chinese Republic. Master Ge, was a well-known local camel trainer. He had an intact family, several disciples with different personalities, and a reputed camel caravan. In eastern Xinjiang, it was a daily routine for camel trainers to drink and wrestle. All males over twelve-years-old learned archery and wrestling. Er Gazi, an orphan taken in by the camel caravan in north Xinjiang, was the youngest disciple of Master Ge.
