Yamamuro Gunpei was born in 1972 to a poor farming family. At a young age he was adopted, because his family was so poor. At the age of 15, he left his adopted home and moved to Tokyo to study. There, he learns about the spirit of charity in Christianity. He heads to Kyoto to enroll at the Doshisha Seminary. Gunpei Yamamuro works with The Salvation Army and becomes the first Japanese officer of the Salvation Army.
