When the planet Icarus heads on a crash course to planet Earth, a perceptive young boy who notices this phenomenon named Akira is recruited by the Pearl Research Institute, led by Captain Yamatone and Professor Pearl. They discover that an evil alien emperor named Nazo has hijacked the rogue planet and plans to use it to conquer the universe. During an expedition to find a special mineral to power a light cannon that could destroy Icarus, Yamatone and the rest stumble upon a tomb where the ancient hero Golden Bat rests. When he is revived by Pearl's granddaughter Emily, Golden Bat teams up with the forces of justice to defeat Nazo and stop Icarus before the Earth is destroyed.
