Sang-wu is sent to prison for political demonstration. Hyun-min and Yong-gyu are very upset. Yong-gyu falls in love with Yu-jin. Despite her parents' opposition, they get married with Hyun-min as a witness. After their honeymoon, Yong-gyu is killed in a car accident. Pregnant with Yong-gyu's baby, Yu-jin goes to America to continue her studies. Hyun-min, who had always loved Yu-jin, becomes spiritless, and later marries a prostitute named Hye-jin. After his release, Sang-wu comes to Hyun-min with an anti-government poem and pressures him for his help but Hyun-min is on a spiral heading towards rock bottom. Yu-jin returns to Korea. She hears about Hyun-min and instills in him that they are 'living inside history.' Hyun-min publishes his collection of poems. Yu-jin informs her parents of her marriage to Hyun-min and they go on a honeymoon…
