Set in the Goryeo dynasty, a porcelain maker, Yang Myeong, is ordered to depart to China leaving behind his wife Kong Nyeo and his daughter Dal. Kong Nyeo and Dal become Buddhist nuns after they have been raped by the Chinese who reigned Goryeo in that period. Yang Myeong learns the tragic story of his family as soon as he comes back from China. He just concentrates on making porcelains since then. Meanwhile, Kong Nyeo sends her daughter to Yang Myeong and commits suicide by throws herself into the fire of kiln. Her sacrifice results in a mysterious blue in Goryeo Cheong Ja porcelain, one of the great masterpieces of art.
