Based loosely on the experiences of Walter Dempster Jr., aka Walterina Markova, the last surviving Filipino "comfort gay" during the Japanese occupation of the Philippines in World War II. Having seen a documentary that depicted the suffering endured by the "comfort women" forced into prostitution during the war, Markova was encouraged to reveal his horrible past.
