Pediatric surgeon Saijo Mikoto had repeated occurrences of metastasis because of liver cancer five years ago. Nothing could be done about his situation. He became a clinical trial patient of the most advanced treatment in America and miraculously escaped death. He comes back to Japan after five years although there is the risk of a relapse and starts work at Kera General Hospital. But the pediatric doctors including Miyoshi Masayasu are worn out because of the exhausting work and many lawsuits. Saijo worries about the doctor Oda Reiko who extremely detests risks and handles her duties mechanically. Reiko was transferred to the pediatric department from the department of surgery as a result of some incident three years ago. One day, Saijo notices that a baby girl diagnosed with asthma is acting strangely. He discovers a tumour from the results of a medical examination. Furthermore, this is not a mere tumour. On the other hand, Miyoshi’s nephew Kyusuke contracts an infection and Miyoshi and Saijo scramble about. They seek the permission of hospital director Hojo Chikage for a treatment method that has no precedents in the world but saving children’s lives is saving the future of many. Saijo takes on difficult surgeries despite the risks and performs miracles for the small lives.
