When the cold, high-pressure air mass from the Eurasian region meets the low-pressure air mass above the sea around Japan, it becomes snow turning the mountainous area in Japan into the ‘kingdom of snow’. To the skiers, this area with plenty of snow is like a heaven, and especially, the Hakkoda in Aomori and the Northern Japan Alps in Nagano are the best place to enjoy. Due to the recent climate crisis, however, this area has rains in winter instead of snow, which increases the danger of avalanches. Thus, skiers now head for Rishiri Island in Hokkaido, the northernmost area of Japan, looking for better snow. This film invites the audience into the peace of oriental painting with a calm explanation of a storyteller and the energetic dance-like movements of skiers on the snow. (Source: UMFF)Edit Translation
