Young-jin, whose nickname is 'Flagpole,' is regarded as a troublemaker. His whole family ignores him. Only his sister-in-law encourages him and gives him courage. A female student named Jung-ah also gave Young-jin hope but when she moves away, Young-jin is filled with loneliness and alienation. He goes to the factory where his father works. At that time, the factory catches on fire. While saving his father from the fire, Young-jin discovers in his father's arms a steel piggy bank. His father uses it to save up for Young-jin's tuition. Seeing this, Young-jin ends his confused wandering heart and looks for a new path.
