Chu Yun's father Chu Tao betrayed his sworn brother Xiao Yuan Feng for selfish gains. Chu Tao and his wife subsequently became victims of Duan Tian Yi's "kill with a borrowed knife" scheme. Chu Yun was only 8 at the time and not knowing the truth behind the deaths of his parents, vowed to get revenge on the culprit someday. Xiao Yuan Feng took pity on the orphaned Chu Yun and brought him up as his godson despite strong opposition from his wife, who believed that "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree."
