This is an excellent avant garde film. It shows the imaginary world of a Buddhist monk committing crimes or indulging in sexual pleasure, through suggestive or symbolic images during his 40 days of trying to reach Nirvana. Yuri, a 33-year-old Buddhist monk enters the ideological Nirvana, a barren land called 'Yuri', Completely naked in this imaginary world, his duty is to find out what 'death' is. Yuri kills a conceited monk, a prejudiced, one-eyed monk, and his own master monk. Yuri practices asceticism in his own way. He makes love to a female monk whose way to asceticism is through sex. By sexual acts, Yuri tries to understand not only love, but also 'death'. Eventually Yuri's asceticism continues in the real world.
